92% of the world's total water footprint shockingly is spent on one industry alone- agriculture. Our global food supply relies heavily on sourcing water from reservoirs such as lakes, rivers, and underground storages. The average person only consumes about 2 liters of water per day, however, the water footprint per person is estimated to be 3000 liters per day. A growing global population intensifies an already depleting fresh water supply. Out of the earth’s 37 major groundwater reservoirs, 21 are on track to being completely emptied and irreversibly damaged, while 13 are under extreme distress. Such excessive deterioration leads to a decline in water quality, water scarcity, and permanent damage of natural ecosystems and landscapes. Nuts and livestock rank at the top of the most water-intensive foods in our food supply. To make matters worse, most of the global almond, walnut, and pistachio supply comes from a drought intensive state, California.
More specifically, WATERMELON SEEDS! These nutritious and delicious superfoods are infinitely versatile and have a fraction of the water footprint in comparison to nuts. Adopting a diet that focuses on less water intensive crops is an easy yet impactful way to reduce your personal water footprint and influence positive change. Our Watermelon Seed Energy Bites are the perfect start to your water saving journey.

from our founder
Força Foods was founded on the idea of health meeting sustainability. Having grown up in Brazil, Thailand, India, China, and the United States- I had the unique experience of being able to see farming practices, water usage, and snack options around the world. Watching my father help local farming communities in each of these countries, I was inspired to study Plant Sciences at UC Davis. Throughout my education there, I grew a deep understanding of agriculture as well as nutrition. I went on to help local organic farms with planting and maintaining nut and seed crops. Being involved in the farming of nuts and seeds I was able to see how much blue and grey water almonds use (56.4 gallons per ounce) vs how much water a watermelon uses (0.73 gallons per ounce)¹. I then went to the local grocery store to buy my normal snacks and truly could not appreciate a single one in regards to health and sustainability. With most vegan snacks relying on dairy, almonds, peanuts, and cashews, not only are they not allergen friendly, they use an immense amount of water. Looking at other snack options that were considered sustainable, I noticed that they also had ingredients like eggs, dairy, and artificial flavors which did not align with my values and health standards. I knew I needed to create a unique snack for myself. Thus, my watermelon seed bites were created! With little water usage, no major allergens, no animal products, all whole natural and organic plant-based ingredients…I knew I had to share this with the world. Guilherme Maia Silva - Founder
